Anime

Link to my MyAnimeList profile

I started watching anime after receiving my first iPod (and therefore unrestricted internet access) on my 12th birthday in late 2009. I became obsessed with the aesthetic and devoured any anime I could find, from classic shounen/shoujos to poorly made ecchi, all was a treasure to me. I didn't care what I watched, all of it was just so unlike anything I had seen up to that point. I definitely watched some things I was way too young to see, but I don't know if I would have ended up pursuing art if I hadn't been introduced to anime at such a formative age.

Favourite Anime: Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Tatami Galaxy, Oniisama E, Kaiba, Princess Tutu.

Nostalgic Anime: Bleach, Bakugan, Lucky Star, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, Yume-iro Patissiere.

Comics/Manga

Of course through anime I was introduced to manga, but it wasn't until late 2011 when I was introduced to Homestuck that I would truly fall in love with comics as a medium. Which is funny, because Homestuck is NOT a normal comic in terms of its presentation. However, it introduced me to the world of webcomics! I saw so much creativity and passion in these works, and it made me realize I could tell my own story too!

Favourite Webcomics: Homestuck, Paranatural, Never Satisfied

Favourite Manga: Blue Period, Our Dreams at Dusk, Devilman, Mob Psycho 100

Favourite Graphic Novels: Seconds, Familiar Face, Fun Home, Signal to Noise

Other comics you should check out: "Lone Shadow" by Mia Nie, "Delicatesse" by Val Wise

Video Games

My formative experiences with video games are actually of watching others playing them. From watching my big brother play God of War and classic Runescape, to crowding around a console with 5 kids at the mall daycare to play Super Mario 64, to watching my first YouTube LetsPlay of Super Mario Galaxy. I have spent far more time in my life WATCHING video games than PLAYING them. Maybe this is why I'm far more drawn to games with robust stories than games with robust gameplay (not that I can't appreciate both nowadays!)

Favourite Games: We Know The Devil, Night in the Woods, NieR: Automata, Disco Elysium.

First Game to make me cry: Shadow of the Colossus
